Life Safety: Power Outage
The Fire Safety Director, upon notification that a power outage has occurred in the building, shall take the following actions:
- Notify the Building Engineer so he/she can:
- Ensure emergency generators are operating properly.
- Ascertain whether any occupants are trapped in any elevators and if so their locations (Elevator Bank, Car and Floor Location)
- Call 911 to report any trapped passengers or other emergencies.
- Attempt to ascertain whether the outage is building only or regional.
- Report the power outage to ComEd: 1-800-EDISON-1 (1-800-334-7661)
- If available, use the One-Way Communication System to notify the building occupants of the situation. Instruct occupants to remain calm and listen for forthcoming instructions.
